Ear wax, also known as cerumen, provides protection against germs and other foreign bodies such as dust getting into the ear.
Some individuals are prone to greater production of wax. Normally your body should expel the wax gradually, but sometimes it can become stuck. The use of cotton buds can push wax deeper into the ear. Hearing aids and ear phones also make people prone to a build up of wax which is more difficult to expel naturally.
Impacted wax can have a significant impact on quality of life due to deafness and discomfort, and can in some cases lead to social isolation, as the individual finds it hard to communicate. It can also contribute to delirium in the elderly.
Process
Wax Free Ear Care provides an ear wax removal service using safe techniques including micro suction and warm water irrigation.
The service is mobile so also suitable for housebound patients.
We advise at least 3 days of olive oil spray or drops into your ear before the procedure. Apply 2 to 3 squirts or drops, 3 times per day. It works to soften the wax and makes it easier to remove. On rare occasions if we cannot remove all the wax, we may ask you to apply the oil for several more days, and we will return to clear the remainder at no extra cost.
Cost
The cost of wax removal is £65.
If on inspection we cannot find any wax the cost would be £15 for ear assesment.
